COVID-19 has certainly slowed us down these days and it has us reflecting on lots of things in our lives. Some of us are filling the extra hours at home with projects we have had on a long list but somehow never had the time to get to them. Now is that time! Car maintenance is something that needs to be done on a regular basis and some things you can do at home. Replacing windshield wipers are one of those things. Wipers keep the window to the road clean and clear. We know that it is important to be able to see without obstruction and when our windshield wipers fail us, it can be a big problem. You do not want to wait until your windshield wipers are completely worn out before you think of replacing them. They do begin showing signs of failure prior to your wipers finally giving up.
Here are the signs your windshield wipers show you when they need to be changed.
- Streaking - When your windshield wipers begin streaking the window, it is time for new ones.
- Cracks in the rubber – These are easy to spot if you inspect your wipers regularly.
- Obvious wear and tear – When your wipers start to shred, it’s time to say “goodbye”!
- Chattering sounds – This is your wiper's way of “communicating” with you that they are wearing out.
All wipers eventually wear out due to sun rays that affect the rubber and icy conditions. If they are new and showing these signs, prior to replacing them, give them a good cleaning using washer fluid and this should fix this issue.
If they are 12 months old or older, it is time to change your windshield wipers!
Hopefully, these tips will help keep you safe and your windshield visible no matter the time of year. Let me know how I can assist you further!
